Do vitamin enriched waters or energy drnks offer an extra bonus? Is bottled water more beneficial than tap water? Here are a few guiding thoughts to consider:

For starters, avoid sugary drinks. Regular soft drinks, sugar-sweetened tea and high-sugar juice drinks offer concentrated calories and little nutritional value. It’s far too easy to over-consume calories from these beverages. In addition, research shows that avoiding sugary drinks is a key step in maintaining a healthy body weight.

Have you ever been to the grocery store with your children? For me, it always starts in the produce aisle. My oldest son asks for grapes, my 4-year-old wants carrots for his lunch. My 10-year-old asks if we can make baked apples when we get home. As I pick through leafy greens and a vibrant array of brightly colored, nutrient-rich fruits and vegetables, I think, “I am so glad my kids eat healthy!”

Report: Fast food kids meals full of calories

Parents looking for healthy meal choices for their children are likely to find slim pickings on the menus of the nation’s top restaurant chains, according to a report a nonprofit public health group released this week.
Nearly every possible combination of the children’s meals at Kentucky Fried Chicken, Taco Bell, Sonic, Jack in the Box and Chick-fil-A are too high in calories, the Center for Science in the Public Interest says.
